ArcelorMittal South Africa, originally known as Iscor Ltd when it was first founded in 1928, is part of world’s biggest steel producer, Arcelor-Mittal.

ArcelorMittal South Africa are the biggest steel producing company in Africa, supplying more than 60% of steel used throughout South Africa and producing around 7 million tonnes of liquid steel each year. The JSE Securities Exchange listed company is headquartered in Gauteng, South Africa.

The company has an industrial presence in around 60 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. They are also leaders in major global markets including construction, automotive, packaging and household appliances.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

ArcelorMittal are awarding bursaries to students who intend on studying full-time at a university approved by ArcelorMittal South Africa. The selected applicant must be studying within one of the following fields:

  • Chemical Engineering,
  • Electrical Engineering,
  • Mechanical Engineering,
  • Metallurgical Engineering,
  • Information Technology.

The bursary award will cover the following expenses: tuition expenses, meals and accommodation, personal computer, scientific calculator and a textbook allowance.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend an interview during the April school holidays.

ArcelorMittal will monitor the progress of their bursary recipients, by way of regular university visits. The aim of the monitoring is to evaluate students well-being, evaluate academic progress each semester, discuss progress and decide if the bursary award should be continued.
Second and third year students are required to do 6 weeks of vacation work/ practical training at the end of the academic year.

On completion of their studies, students will be appointed into the Candidate Engineer Programme, this is an extra 24 month training programme in order for students to register as professional engineers after training.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Currently in Matric OR completed Matric
  • Achieved a minimum of 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 11
  • Achieved a minimum of 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% for your remaining subjects in Matric
  • Meet the University requirements for your field of study
  • Intend on studying full time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Intend on studying at a University approved by ArcelorMittal for the field of study

Students who meet the following requirements may also apply (please note the application method differs):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying towards a BEng qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study

  • Proof of University application/ registration
