ABOUT THE BURSARY

Digby Wells and Associates (Pty) Ltd was established by Digby Wells, Graham Trusler and Ken van Rooyen in January of 1995, all 3 of whom were from the Environmental Management Department of Rand Mines.

Digby Wells Environmental provides Environmental and Social services to both International and South African clients, focusing primarily on the African Mineral Resources and Energy sectors.

The late Mr Digby Wells was a key player in the South African environmental management field, therefore the company was named in his honour.
ABOUT THE BURSARY

Undergraduate (first, second and third year) students, as well as Postgraduate students are welcome to apply for the bursary programme. The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition costs, textbook allowance and a laptop.

The bursary is intended for students who wish to pursue a career in the Environmental Industry and are currently (or intend on) studying within one of the following fields:

  • BSc Aquatic Health
  • BSc Botany
  • BSc Environmental Sciences
  • BSc Geography
  • BSc Hydrogeology
  • BSc Hydrology
  • BSc Zoology

Students must be willing to sign an employment contract with Digby Wells before commencing their studies. Students will receive paid vacation employment and once graduated, full-time employment. Vacation employment provides students with on-site exposure, practical training and hands-on mentorship.
ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must ensure that they meet the following minimum requirements before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • Strong academic potential,
  • Full-time student (current or future),
  • Passion for working outdoors,
  • Will to contribute/ make a difference to the environment,
  • Obtained a minimum of 60% for English, Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 12/ Matric.

*Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged students.

Complete application form and the following supporting documents must be emailed to: bursary@digbywells.com

  • Copy of ID document,
  • Copy of Grade 12/ Matric results certificate,
  • Copy of previous years end results,
  • Copy of this years June results (or otherwise latest results),
  • Copy of academic record (for current tertiary students),
  • Recommendation letter.
