ABOUT THE COMPANY – NAC

The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) was established via an act of parliament in 1997 with the aim of promoting the free expression of cultures in South Africa, though arts.

Managed by the South African Department of Arts and Culture, the NAC are responsible for the countries creative industry development, by way of grant awards in the arts faculty. The Council is one of the major funding bodies for artists in the country.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The NAC offer 2 types of bursaries:
1) Block Institutional bursaries – for Undergraduate studies
These bursaries must be applied for by Institutional heads of department, for their undergraduate students. Applications received from student directly will not be considered.

2) Individual bursaries – for Postgraduate studies
Students must apply directly to the NAC.
Bursaries will be awarded to students within the Arts faculty, within the following fields:

  • Dance
  • Theatre
  • Music
  • Multi-Discipline
  • Visual Arts
  • Craft
  • Literature

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying towards an Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
Institutional Bursary (undergraduate):

  • ID document (certified copy, no older than 3 months old)
  • Course outline
  • Fee structure
  • Annual academic report
  • Students banking details
  • Current student intake results
  • Student selection criteria
  • Tax clearance certificate
  • Audited financial statement

Individual Bursary (postgraduate):

  • ID document (certified copy, no older than 3 months old)
  • Academic transcript or academic record
  • Proof of acceptance by tertiary institution
  • Course outline
  • Fee structure
  • Tertiary institutions banking details
  • Students banking details
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae
  • 2 reference letters
  • Students proof of income (payslips/ affidavit if unemployed)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (payslips/ affidavit if unemployed)
