Geography

OVERVIEW

Geography is the study of places and the relationship between people and the environment in which they live in. As such Geography is categorized into 2 main parts: physical geography and human geography. Physical geography involves the continents, seas, rivers and mountains and Human Geography studies how the environment impacts human behaviour and vice versa.

SPECIALISATION

 

Glaciers and glaciation
Glaciers and glacial systems and effects focus on the land formation and the impact of climate change. Students will be exposed to glacier erosion and deposition, mapping and analysis techniques, and glacial environments and ecosystems.
Hydrology
Hydrology exposes students to water quality, movement, transportation, uses and resources. It focuses on agricultural water use, drainage management, hydropower, water supply and sanitation, and flood forecasting and safeguarding.
Political geography
Political geography focuses on the relationships between politics and physical spaces. Students will, amongst other things, study relationships between physical landforms and provincial boundaries.
Cultural geography
Cultural geography focuses on cultural norms, customs, traditions, changes and clashes. Other areas of focus include effects of globalization and issues connected to cultural exchange, integration or dominance.
