Pharmacology
OVERVIEW
Pharmacology seeks to examine drugs and they’re effect on the body. In this field, you will learn to develop new chemical substances and examine the effects of established medicinal compounds, together with the beneficial and harmful effects of drugs. You will focus on elements of toxicology, biology, chemistry, and physiology, and is a broad scientific field applicable to many careers in the life sciences area.
SPECIALISATION
Toxicology
Toxicology focuses on the harmful effects of chemicals and other substances on living organisms and the process of developing remedies for exposures to toxins and toxicants.
Biotechnology
Biotechnology exposes students to the use of biological systems or living organisms to develop technological outcomes that are used in various fields.
Medicinal chemistry
Medicinal Chemistry focuses on the use of biochemistry, physiology and chemistry to develop solutions that can mitigate various health related issues.
Drug and Development
Drug development exposes students to the processes involved in creating new drugs. This may include learning how to conduct pre-clinical research and clinical trials as well as learning about relevant manufacturing processes, regulatory issues and assessing financial viability.
Molecular Biology
Molecular biology focuses on the nature and interactions of the units that make up living organisms. You’ll also be exposed to the study of DNA for the purpose of mutating it in order to study the effects and possibilities of these processes.
Biometrics
Biometrics exposes students to the different human characteristics that are unique from one person to the next and their consideration in the design of complex security systems.
