About The Organization β CHIETA
The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) is a government-established body that helps young people develop skills needed in the chemical industry in South Africa. It was set up under the Skills Development Act to make sure skills gaps in the chemical sector are addressed through education, training and support programmes. CHIETA works with schools, colleges, universities and employers to help learners gain qualifications and practical experience so they can get jobs or start careers in this industry.
About The Bursary Programme
The CHIETA bursary helps students with money for tertiary studies related to the chemical industry. It can cover costs like tuition fees, books, and sometimes accommodation and living expenses, depending on your needs and the available funds. The aim is to support learners who want to study fields that are important to the chemical sector and that are in high demand.
Eligibility Requirements β Who Qualifies & What Courses are Funded?
You may qualify for the CHIETA bursary if you are:
A South African citizen
Accepted or registered for a full-time qualification at a recognized South African university or college.
Studying in a sector related to the chemical industry, such as:
Chemical Engineering
Analytical Chemistry /Biochemistry
Biomedical Technology
Environmental Science
Industrial / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
Polymer Technology/ Pharmacy
Bachelor of Science or other related fields. You also usually need Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science and a motivation letter explaining why you deserve the bursary.
Who is Disqualified From Applying (Who Should Not Apply)
Do not apply if you:
Are not a South African citizen. Β Are not studying or planning to study a qualification linked to the chemical industry.
Do not have proof of acceptance/registration at your tertiary institution.
Cannot provide all required supporting documents (ID, results, proof of income, etc.)
How To Apply For The Bursary

2. Prepare your supporting documents:
* Certified South African ID
* Grade 12 results
* Acceptance letter / proof of registration from your university/college
* Proof of income (parents/guardian)
* Motivational letter explaining why you should get the bursary.
3. Submit your completed form and documents by email to [bursary@chieta.org.za] (or another address as stated in the latest CHIETA advert).

Applications usually open in early February each year (check the current year’s notice on the official CHIETA website).
π Closing Date:
The bursary applications often close on 28 February Annually of the proceeding year (applications after this date are usually not considered).
