1. About The Organization
The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) was formed in April 2000 to help grow skills and training in South Africa’s construction industry. Its job is to make sure people studying construction, engineering, and building-related work get the right education and support so they can become strong workers in these fields. CETA does this by connecting training with what the construction industry really needs.
2. About The Bursary Programme
CETA offers the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary Scheme to help South African learners pay for their studies in construction-related fields. This bursary helps students who want to study at universities, universities of technology, or TVET colleges. It can pay for things like tuition fees, registration, books, meals, accommodation, and sometimes other study costs depending on what’s needed.

3. Eligibility Requirements – Who Qualifies For Funding
To qualify for CETA funding you generally need to meet the following:
✔ South African citizen or permanent resident
✔ Accepted, enrolled, or planning to enroll at a public university, university of technology or TVET college
✔ Studying a construction, engineering, or built environment-related course
✔ Financial need (low- to middle-income household)
✔ Good academic ability/meeting minimum pass requirements
Examples of funded areas include: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Property Development, Electrical Infrastructure, Building Construction, and other built environment courses.
4. Who is Disqualified From Applying (Who Should Not Apply)
🚫 People who are not South African citizens or permanent residents
🚫 Learners who already get full funding from the same CETA bursary
🚫 Immediate family members of CETA employees (can’t apply)
🚫 Students who don’t meet basic academic or income requirements
🚫 Applicants with no acceptance or registration at a recognized institution
